Defending Champion: Vazquez wins Mexican Amateur

Sebastian Vazquez, 2012 Mexican National Amateur Champion

Mexico's Sebastian Vazquez posted a 69, his fourth round under par, to win the Mexican National Amateur Championship at Guadalajara Country Club by four strokes over Canadian Adam Svensson.

"I'm very happy, very satisfied with this result which is certainly the best of the year and an honor," said Vazquez after his win.

The win means Vazquez will receive an exemption to play in the U.S. Amateur in August. Said Vazquez, "I played last year and failed to advance, but this year I hope to have more experience and better results."

Canadian Adam Svensson posted 65, the low round of the day and finished second in the tournament at 7 under par. Luis Rogelio Medina (Mexico) and Marcelo Rozo (Colombia) both finished four under par.

For the team competition, Sebastian Vazquez and partner Carlos Ortiz, representing Mexico, carded a 13-under par 419 total.

"It is always important to win a title for Mexico and we are delighted to have won this victory," said Carlos Ortiz, following the Championship.

Canadians Adam Svensson and Riley Fleming took second in the pairs competition, posting 432, 2-over par.
