Chris Rowe named 2012 Harvey Penick Teacher of the Year

The Southern Texas PGA Section recently announced its annual award winners for 2012. Chris Rowe, Head Golf Professional at Whispering Pines Golf Club was named the Harvey Penick Teacher of the Year.
“It is such an honor and blessing to win this award,” stated Rowe “When I looked at the names on the list and realized my name would be recognized with the great teachers in the state of Texas it was truly a humbling moment.”

Chris has been recognized nationally over the years as one of the top teaching professionals in the country.  In addition to the Penick award, he has won the following:

• 2011 U.S. Kids Top 50 Teachers in the United States
• 2007 STPGA Eastern Chapter Teacher of the Year
• 2005 &2007 Golf Magazine Top teachers in Southern Region United States

The STPGA has awarded the Teacher of the Year award since 1968, with world renowned golf instructor Harvey Penick winning the award from 1968-1983. Penick was the golf coach at the University of Texas from 1931 to 1963, coaching the Longhorns to 21 Southwest Conference championships in 33 years, including 20 out of 23 seasons from 1932 to 1954. In 1989, Penick was honored by the PGA of America as Teacher of the Year. 

Since 1984, the Harvey Penick Teacher of the Year Award has been presented to an impressive list of past recipients, including Chuck Cook (1984, 1995), Charlie Epps (1985,2009), Jackson Bradley (1986), Dick Harmon (1987,1988), Paul Marchand (1992), Kevin Kirk (1998, 1999,2008 and 2011) and Jim Hardy (2002).

The 2012 STPGA Annual Awards Dinner will take place on February 10th at Horseshoe Bay.
