Best International Amateur Golfers Set to Compete at The Spirit International

Whispering Pines Golf Club to host prestigious international golf championship


HOUSTON, Texas ó Twenty countries representing six continents will compete at The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club, October 30 - November 2, 2013. Each country team will be comprised of the two best men and two best women amateur golfers. 

Corby Robertson, founder of Whispering Pines Golf Club, established The Spirit International in 2001. The Spirit International is a biannual tournament that alternates years with the World Amateur Golf Championships. Former Spirit players include Lorena Ochoa, Paula Creamer, Yani Tseng, Alexis Thompson, Na Yeon Choi, Martin Kaymer, Charl Schwartzel, Jason Day, Brandt Snedeker, Matteo Manassero, Francesco Molinari and Jordan Spieth. 

Tournament week festivities begin with The Spirit International Opening Ceremonies Dinner on Sunday, October 27th, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott. On Monday October 28th, the participants will proceed to Whispering Pines Golf Club and Camp Olympia for the official team championship and remaining tournament activities.

The Spirit International competition rounds are October 30 - November 2. The 20 participating teams are comprised of their national amateur champions and top ranked players. The format of play is Four-Ball Stroke Play. The menís and womenís Four-Ball score is combined for the International Team competition. The 2013 Country Team Field includes: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and the United States.
