A Texas straight: Whispering Pines #1 five years in a row
Dallas, TEXAS—The Dallas Morning News – Texas Golf 2010 edition officially announced
Whispering Pines Golf Club, located outside of Trinity, Texas, as the #1 Golf Course in Texas.
This marks the fifth straight year that Whispering Pines has received the top honor by the 120
statewide panelists who cast votes for the annual state rankings.
"It is an honor to be ranked among such prestigious and noteworthy Texas golf courses. When
you consider the number of great golf courses in Texas, the ability to achieve top status is really
incredible. For Whispering Pines to be recognized as the best in Texas for five straight years is a
true testament to the vision of course owners, Corby and Barbara Robertson, and their
commitment to excellence, in addition to a dedicated staff and loyal membership," said Eric
Fredricksen, President of the World Health & Golf Association, the non-profit organization
responsible for all membership and tournament services.
The top ten courses recognized in the Dallas Morning News- Texas Golf 2010 publication are:

Nicklaus Course, The Woodlands (9) Champions Golf Club, Cypress Course, Houston (10)
Brook Hollow Golf Club, Dallas
Whispering Pines also placed more holes than any other course in the ―Texas’ Best 18 Holes
rankings with six holes #2, #14, #15, #16, #17 and #18 listed. In the ―18 Most Beautiful Holes in
Texas rankings, Whispering Pines made up a third of the list with holes #7, #13, #14, #15, #17
and #18 earning most beautiful honors.
Since 1989 The Dallas Morning News has issued their annual Best in Texas Golf rankings,
recognized as the most prestigious state golf rankings as their panel of professional and amateur
golf enthusiasts from across Texas submit votes. Each panelist is required to vote for only
courses they have played and use a 10 point ranking criteria based on versatility, shot making,
remembrance, beauty, conditioning, and overall enjoyment.

Located along the northern shores of Lake Livingston, Whispering Pines Golf Club showcases
the beautiful piney woods of East Texas and offers members a secluded and first-class golfing
experience. Since opening in 2000, Whispering Pines has received many outstanding honors by
national golf publications. Golf Digest has honored the philanthropic golf club as the ―Third Best
New Private Course in America‖ the ―Second Best in Texas‖ (state rankings) and as #11 in
America’s 50 Greatest Golf Retreats. In 2009, Golf Magazine ranked Whispering Pines among
the Top 100 Golf Courses in America.
Dedicated to hosting the finest amateur events, Whispering Pines will host The Big 12
Conference Men’s Golf Championship, April 22 -25, 2010. The Spirit International Amateur
Golf Championship, featuring the world’s best men and women amateur players from 20
countries, will be played in the fall of 2011.
